Throughout the program, you will work on:

  • Balance and control to ride technical trails with greater confidence
  • Body position for better stability, efficiency and flow
  • Braking technique to maximise effectiveness while maintaining balance and control
  • Cornering skills to navigate turns with more consistency
  • Using movement on the bike to maintain control across small obstacles and uneven terrain
  • Front and rear wheel lifts to handle larger obstacles

Our coaches will adapt content and activities to suit the group’s experience, goals and energy, ensuring every rider is challenged and supported at the right level.

More Information

What to Bring

  • Your bike and helmet in good working order
  • Appropriate clothing (enclosed shoes, comfortable sports clothing)
  • A water bottle (preferably one you can carry on your bike) or hydration backpack
  • Snacks
  • Any relevant medications
  • Weather dependent considerations (sunscreen, rain jacket, change of clothes etc.)

What Sort of Bike?

Riders will need a mountain bike in good working order, with functioning brakes and gears. BMX bikes and other single-speed styles aren’t suitable for this program. E-bikes are suitable as long as they are designed for off-road use. The ends of the handlebars must be covered with handlebar plugs for safety. If you’re unsure whether your bike is suitable, feel free to contact us.

Protective Gear

Riders are required to wear a helmet in good working order and are encouraged to consider any additional protective equipment, such as gloves and knee pads, that may help them feel comfortable and confident during the session. Additional protection, such as elbow pads or a full-face helmet, can provide extra assurance if you are planning to challenge yourself and may allow you to push your riding further without significantly increasing your risk of injury. Ultimately, riders are responsible for choosing the level of protection that best matches their skills, goals and comfort.

Meeting Point

Participants are asked to meet their coach at the Blackwood Football Club car park (map here) 10 minutes prior to the session’s start time.

Facilities

There are public toilets and drinking water available at this venue.
